Apprentice earns car for speeding Eighteen-year-old Guy Shorrock of Blackburn has received a brand new car after achieving an NVQ2 qualification in just eight months instead of the normal 18 months. His employer, Blackburn-based Abbey Telecom, splashed out on the car - a white Skoda Fabia bearing the eye catching web address www.whoisthis.co.uk - after hearing that Guy passed his driving test at the same time. Guy joined Abbey Telecom, a Samsung Telecoms system supplier, as an apprentice and has been receiving training in telephone engineering through the SMART (Samsung Telecoms apprentice recruitment and training) programme. He Is now working towards an NVQ3. I have always believed in apprenticeships. said Tony Raynor, managing director of Abbey Telecom. I much prefer to train and keep good people rather than poaching them from other companies. Apprenticeships help us to do this, as well as giving young people a good start in their chosen careers. Guy was handed the keys to his new car by Graham Webster of Woodheads Garage, Squire Gate, Blackpool. The photo shows Guy Shorrock. (left) receiving the keys from Graham Webster.
